3-Channel AC Current Sensor

The 3-Channel AC Current Sensor from Fidar Electronics measures RMS alternating current from 0 to 5 A, and reaches much larger feeders through a current transformer. It connects to a FIDAQUIRE data logger over a daisy-chained CANopen bus.

  • Measures RMS alternating current, 0 to 5 A
  • Three independent input channels in one unit
  • Extendable to higher currents with a CT
  • Fast response to load changes and current swings
  • RJ45 output on a CANopen bus
  • Daisy-chains up to 64 sensors per card
  • Works with the FBC0232-01 card and FIDAQUIRE logger
  • Up to 500 m of bus at 125 kbit/s

An AC current sensor continuously measures the RMS current flowing in a line and hands it to your monitoring system for logging, trending and alarms. It reads 0–5 A directly, and with a current transformer the same sensor covers feeders of tens or hundreds of amps — the CT ratio is applied in software so the reading comes back in the line's real amps. Current is the most telling health signal an electrical load has: its trend shows a motor's loading, whether a machine is actually running, and the onset of mechanical wear well before it stops the line.

Key features

  • Measures RMS alternating current, 0 to 5 A

  • Three independent input channels in one unit

  • Extendable to higher currents with a CT

  • Fast response to load changes and current swings

  • RJ45 output on a CANopen bus

  • Daisy-chains up to 64 sensors per card

  • Works with the FBC0232-01 card and FIDAQUIRE logger

  • Up to 500 m of bus at 125 kbit/s

Connectivity

  • RJ45 CANopen output running at 125 kbit/s

  • Daisy-chain of up to 64 sensors on one FBC0232-01 card

  • Automatic input-break detection reported to the logger

Where it is used

  • Motor and pump load monitoring, catching overload before burnout

  • Consumption measurement on distribution boards and feeders

  • Proving a machine is running from the current it draws

  • Server-room, UPS and backup-circuit load monitoring

  • Energy management and per-line consumption breakdown

  • Street-lighting circuits and pumping stations

Installation

Mount the sensor on the panel wall or rail and keep the signal cable away from power conductors so induced noise does not disturb the reading.
