The dry contact is the simplest and most widely used industrial signal there is: any device with a volt-free status contact — a door microswitch, a limit switch, a UPS alarm output, a fire panel, an intruder alarm, a contactor auxiliary — connects to the monitoring system through this detector. It reads whether the contact is open or closed and timestamps every change of state, and it supplies the sensing voltage itself, so no separate supply is needed.

Keep the input wiring away from power cable; on long runs, shielded cable stops induced noise from producing phantom state changes.
