Mushroom farming control

Controls temperature, humidity and CO₂ in mushroom growing rooms through every growth stage, and reports a deviation before the crop is damaged.

Mushroom farming control

Why this monitoring is needed

Mushrooms are more sensitive to environment than any greenhouse crop, and worse, their optimum changes through the cycle: spawn run, pinning and cropping each want different temperature and CO₂. One fixed setting for the whole cycle guarantees a weak yield.

CO₂ is decisive and the source of most mistakes. High concentration produces long stems and small caps — exactly the mushroom a buyer rejects. Without measurement, no operator can guess a room's CO₂ level.

What gets measured

  • Air and compost temperature

Compost temperature differs from air temperature and governs the spawn run; a PT100 goes into the bed itself.

  • Room relative humidity

Low humidity cracks the caps; high humidity invites fungal disease.

  • CO₂ concentration

A 4–20 mA CO₂ transmitter drives the fresh-air command.

  • AHU and humidifier operation

Motor current proves fan and humidifier are actually working — in a mushroom room a few hours of stoppage is enough.

  • Room power and backup

A power cut in a mushroom room means losing the cycle; it has to be reported within the minute.

Alarm and automation rules

  1. 1

Temperature, humidity and CO₂ thresholds are defined per cycle stage and switch over automatically at the right time.

  2. 2

CO₂ above the stage threshold: fresh-air damper opened by relay with the deviation duration logged.

  3. 3

Humidity below threshold: humidifier on. Above threshold: ventilation increased.

  4. 4

AHU current lost: immediate SMS with no delay.

  5. 5

Room power loss: critical alarm over GSM, independent of site power and network.

What the operator gets

  • Mushroom grade improves with CO₂ under control, raising the first-grade share.

  • Losing a cycle to an overnight equipment failure is effectively eliminated.

  • Every cycle's conditions are recorded, making good and bad cycles comparable.

Frequently asked questions

Is one logger enough for several rooms?

Yes. Each CANopen card supports up to 64 sensors and the chassis has two slots, expandable to five. Thresholds are set per room, since rooms are usually at different cycle stages at the same time.

Will a sensor survive at 95 % humidity?

Fidar's temperature and humidity sensor reads up to 100 % RH, but its rated operating condition is non-condensing. In a mushroom room the sensor must sit in a vented protective housing away from direct water spray — build that into the installation design.
